Fall 2017 RWYM Teacher Training

  • Great Strides 26771 Howard Chapel Drive Damascus, MD, 20872 United States (map)

Mary is all fired up to start teaching content from her new book, featured above. We in the US will start getting our copies soon, and I for one can't wait to see how my use of the information in it will improve my students' grasp of what I'm teaching.

About the new book, from Mary's website

Fascia is the connecting fabric of the body, stringing muscles together like sausage skins string sausages. It forms long chains that become 'guy ropes' for the spine and other bones. We are only stable and in balance when these chains have equal tension and are taut. Just think: would you stabilise a tent pole by lengthening the tighter guy ropes? No! This would make the whole structure collapse!

Train the Trainer: For those who aren't familiar with Mary's Teacher Trainings, they are a great way to gain a deeper understanding of why and how Mary's teaching methods work better than any other riding instruction method out there. It's a dynamic mix of learning theory, real-time rider assessment, teaching skills, language and imagery usage, and help with developing your eye to see what the rider really needs to work on next.

Whether you're an instructor yourself, or you just want to be able to understand the method so your own riding improves faster, you're welcome to participate. The only prerequisite is that you must have ridden with Mary in at least one 3-day riding clinic either this year or last year.

If you have never ridden with Mary, you can sign up to ride in the 3-day clinic which I'll be hosting immediately prior to the Teacher Training. The dates for that clinic are Oct 27, 28, 29. This will make you eligible to participate in the Teacher Training here, held Oct 31 to Nov 2, 2017.

Mary only does Teacher Trainings in this region once every 2 years, though she does do 3-day rider biomechanics clinics here twice a year.

If you're coming from out of the area, never fear: we have lodging here at the farm - first come first serve - and some stalls and limited pasture available if you bring your own horse(s).

We are looking for additional horses for Teacher Training participants to ride during the co-teaching times each day, so if you would be willing to share your horse for a reduced clinic fee, please contact me in advance: heartofriding@gmail.com - Thanks! -Emily
